Books Collection Project

Initiator: Mauro Oreta
For those of us who live overseas and have children would have realized this. our children have lots and lots of books at home. sometimes we run out of space to store them and simply throw them away or donate them to others. many times i pass by our library here in glenfield and during weekends they have a garage sale of used books just for them to be able to dispose old books.

and yet, back in the philippines, lots of school children especially those in public schools have very little access to good quality books. so i was thinking it is such a waste that those children's books, na napagkalakihan na ng ating mga anak, just sit in the boxes or book shelves collecting dust. just think of the volumes of harry potter books you have at home lying around. may magbabasa pa ba noon?

so why don't we pool together all our unwanted children's books and donate them to public schools back home. just one or two balikbayan boxes full of children's books would make lots and lots of kids very happy back home. hopefully will make them love reading and keep them away from trouble.

this is just a thought. i was thinking of tapping the pinoy community here in nz. however will also need people back in the philippines to coordinate with.

what say you?
